Chapter 4

WHAT NOW

Bella sat where she was, she was speechless.

Jacob reached his hand out, “Come with me Bella”.

Bella closed her eyes and wished Jacob to go away. She was thinking so many terrible things to say that she was stuttering even in her mind.

Jacob walked over to Bella and reached down, “I can make you go with me, and the neighbors will describe what ? They won’t have known who had taken you away. Charlie will think Edward did because he doesn’t know about Edward yet.

Bella jumped up to slap Jacob. He grabbed her and hoisted her up into his arms. Twisting and turning to get away, Bella was taken out the bedroom door, down the steps and out the front door.

Although she was wasn’t screaming, she tried to fight, her shock of him grabbing her like a rag doll was fueling more of her fire to fight Jacob. Words spewed out of her mouth, shaky stuttering noises. No one noticed or heard her, because it happened so fast. No one was outside; it was drizzling and cold as usual.

Jacob was already in the woods by the time Bella could find her voice, “Put me down Jacob, PUT ME DOWN”!

She squirmed around in his arms; he held her tight and ran with her.

Bella didn’t stop wiggling and trying to fight, but he held her so close to his chest that she couldn’t move her arms. Her legs were flaying about and she tried to butt her head into him, but that had only hurt her and made her dizzy.

Jacob was strong; he had grown upwards in just a few weeks, and was as wide as a professional football player she had seen on one of Charlie’s games during the winter. His height reminded her of that famous basketball star that married that famous actress, what’s her name. Even if she did try to get out of his arms, she would probably break something, of hers anyway.

He didn’t have to treat her this way. She didn’t deserve to be treated like a rag doll.

Bella tried to look and see where she was, nothing looked familiar.

The Fork’s woods were vast, and it covered La Push territory too, so she didn’t know if she was on his families land or not, she didn’t even know how long she had been fighting Jacob to let her go.

Her thoughts were on why Jacob would betray their friendship. And why he would lie to her. Why did he bring her out here; she didn’t know where she was or what he was going to do with her when he got where he was going. She hated being scared. She hated him so much, and she hated Edward too.

Jacob slowed to a walk. Bella didn’t move, she closed her eyes and thought bad things. What if he actually brought me out here to kill me? It’s probably what he did to Edward? I would be happy; I would tell him that I don’t hate him any more, that he is giving me a gift. Death would be a gift right now.

Jacob glanced down at Bella, her face was damp from her tears and she wasn’t fighting him any more. He thought it was kind of funny that she had tried to head butt him, but under the circumstances it wasn’t all that funny. He really didn’t know what he was going to do with her, but he knew he didn’t want Charlie to see her the way she was, plus he didn’t want to just leave her at home all alone.

Ah, this hurts ! Jacob yelled as he continued to try to make peace with his emotions. Sam is making me do this because he thinks I will change my mind. I will not ! When I was running with the pack, and was trying not to think about what Bella was going thru, and feeling hurt at what she had said to me, Sam had come running up to me and told me that I couldn’t keep running away from my own pain, I had to face it head on. Hurting is an emotion, I am human, Im not a monster. I can feel. This is stupid. Going thru all this all over. I didnt have to go back to Bella I could have kept running if I wanted to, I could have, if I wanted !The pack had heard Sam; they knew how much Bella’s words had hurt me. They didn’t want me to run either; they wanted me to tell Bella the truth.I knew what I had to do but not for the reasons they wanted, I had to go back to make sure she was ok.

So in a mid run I circled back, my brother’s right along side me. I didn’t know what I would say to Bella, all I knew was I would never leave her again. I refuse to be an Edward, a coward.

I’m no coward Sam Uley, you hear me Sam, I’m no coward ! Jacob yelled out, but he sat back on his stump and went back into his memories.

Looking down at her Jacob knew Bella didn’t know where she was, and if he put her down, she would wander and probably injure herself. So before stopping, and setting her down, he thought up a plan to keep her still, and not have her running off.

For dramatic effect he paused as if listening for something. Bella’s eyes were still closed. He came to a complete stop, sniffed the air, making a sniffing sound so that Bella could hear him.

He whispered close enough to her ear, “There are other wolves in the region. I have to be careful, I want to put you down, but if I do you will probably run, and run directly into them, that’s not a death you would like Bella, you are the type of person who wants something more dramatic, and martyr like, and ….
